Reported speech — это косвенная речь.

Мы передаем слова другого человека не как прямую цитату, а через глаголы said, told, asked.

Если вводящий глагол в прошлом, время обычно делает шаг назад.

Present Simple I work here.	Past Simple She worked there	She said, “I work here.” She said (that) she worked there.
Present Continuous I am working.	Past Continuous She was working	He said, “I am working.” He said (that) he was working.
Past Simple I met Anna.	Past Perfect She had met Anna	She said, “I met Anna.” She said (that) she had met Anna.
Past Continuous I was reading.	Past Perfect Continuous He had been reading	He said, “I was reading.” He said (that) he had been reading.
Present Perfect I have finished.	Past Perfect She had finished	She said, “I have finished.” She said (that) she had finished.
will I will call you.	would He would call me	He said, “I will call you.” He said (that) he would call me.
