Когда используется

1. Точное время: I was having dinner yesterday at 5 o'clock.

2. While — в то время как: While my mom was cooking, I was sleeping.

3. When: She called me when I was sleeping.

Важно

Есть глаголы, которые обычно не используются в Continuous. Такие глаголы называются stative verbs.

Past Continuous

affirmative

Subject + was/were + verb-ing

I was reading.She was cooking.We were watching TV.They were playing football.

Subject + was/were + verb-ing

negation

Subject + wasn’t/weren’t + verb-ing

I wasn’t sleeping.He wasn’t listening.We weren’t talking.They weren’t working.

Was/Were + subject + verb-ing?
